There was nothing terribly wrong with the locos themselves, but they used a lot of non-standard parts that were too expensive to fix/replace. Other than that, they were really good locomotives. VIA still has a few of them sitting in the Montreal maintenance centre, and they're for sale, if you want one! http://www.viarail.ca/en/about-via-rail/bu...ling/whats-sale

Some are also parked in Toronto across the GO yard, wherever that is.

VIA Rail's Toronto Maintenance Centre. The three stored there are for sale still.

VIA is only allowed to sell them for whatever their actual value is.

Which leaves us with two options - either we get them to lend us one like Exporail, or we buy one outright for about $125K.

Not just that....we've got two pairs of seats identical to those here in the office. Apparently they were from Tempo #370, but like those came from the first order of the CC&F coaches.

Not quite the same shade of red, but I seemed to remember that being the case.

These seats however are completely different than those used by the LRC or HEP2 cars.

If i buy a VIA Canada pass i can travel anywhere in the country for a period of 12 days without restrictions? I can double back or go in the opposite direction?
Will i have access to the dome cars? Can i upgrade to have access to the dome cars?

It's very general...which is why i wanted to ask. Are there any conditions? You have to get back on where you go off? Must travel in one direction? Cant back track?
Or you can do whatever you want and eat your heart out for 12 days?

From what i read in Conditions of use you can make as many stops as u like for 12 days out of a Calender month.
You can add up to 3 extra days of travel (15 days Max) if you need more time
there's no mention of backtracking. that i can see

Your best bet is contacting via for more info not found online

hope this helps

In some cases, multi-million dollar projects are already underway to rebuild platforms, repair roofs or upgrade heating systems in such locations as Vancouver, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Halifax. Other cities such as Montreal, Windsor, Oshawa, near Toronto, and Smiths Falls, near Ottawa, are slated to have a brand new station in their region.
Smiths falls doesn't need a new stn
the current stn is perfect for the passenger flow that the town sees maybe a updated platform/lighting would be a better plan for this stn

I noticed a VIA train heading Eastwards out of Union Station around 5:00 with a P42 and about 5 LRC Cars, the thing is, it was heading backwards. Any idea if this was a special move? Or is this normal?
