Megabus Rider
I saw a mega bus double deker heading north on Bathurst street past elgin mills followed by a J series coach. Do those go out on charters? Seems to me like Prevost is doing much better in sales compared to MCI. Could be a deadhead, were there any passengers on board? Ever since the Construction on the Gardiner they would deadhead to and from the Coach Terminal via 401/DVP. It would not surprise me if they use other means including 407. Interesting spotting on Saturday.... On the 401 westbound, near Kingston, a RED new H345, with Coach Canada along the side. The rumor mill has been pick up steam about Safeway and Coach Canada. This rumor may become true after all: Safeway will end their contract with Coach Canada this September. It is rumored that PW may grow their fleet to take over Coach Canada's percentage of the runs. Great Canadian has been getting outbounds gradually with now on a weekly basis doing the 3 days to Montreal, 7 days to PEI and the 3 - 5 days New York/Washington DC and Chicago. I dunno what's going on with GTA at the moment. Of course, things can change and Coach Canada may just do small percentage of runs for Safeway or maybe they there will be no termination of contract. It's really hard to tell now but just wait until September to see what happens. What?? Safeway is already not using those new H3-45s? It's my understanding that the Safeway name was replaced with Coach Canada's name. There is still plenty of New Prevosts with the Safeway name. Have they removed the safeway wraps on the 8300 and higher J series? I wonder if they will have a surplus of buses or retire or sell off some of the older ones? Why does Coach Canada use cutaways for their Kingston Pearson Express bus? Why would they bother to maintain a different fleet just for that service? I have seen some of those sold off to other agencies after they reach their mileage. Meaning they obviously dont last as long as a coach. Is it that much cheaper to maintain? I don't know about surplus buses, but you can call them and ask... The Average Joe answered your question... If you are talking about Cut-a-ways, yes they don't last long than Motor Coaches since there classified as Medium/light duty buses. As for maintenance, it depends on the Chassis manufacturer such as Freightliner, International and etc.
BCT-3122-D800-10240
Coach Canada #89013 was spotted on Highway #3 near Lethbridge, Alberta this past Saturday evening heading eastbound.
Articulated
Even some of the newer Prevosts are starting to come out of Safeway livery... spotted 90026 with the red base and Coach Canada logos, with only a small decal near the door for Safeway (instead of the full bus livery). Megabus Rider
is the contract still as big as the previous one? Yeah, they do everything. Originally, when the contract was suppose to end, PW was suppose to take over all the multiday trips and the Casino Runs along with Great Canadian. Megabus Rider
So what happened... how come the deal with PW and Great Canadian didn't fall through? Great Canadian is ok, the problem is PW. The rumour that I am hearing is cost and driver availability. PW charges more than Coach Canada and Great Canadian for multiday charters especially in the USA. Also, PW's drivers are older in age meaning they can't handle Chinese Tours or the double runs to Fallsview. Most PW drivers would turn down Safeway work when dispatched. Safeway has basically regret their decision to give work to PW. That's why Safeway has renewed their contract with Coach Canada and I think they are pressuring Great Canadian to buy more new buses because of PW. Megabus Rider
What about GTA Crew? 3 buses for Safeway, not much based on Safeway's operation. GTA can only do Canada East 3 days and Casino Runs. GTA does not have member affiliation (unlike Great Canadian with Trailways and Coach Canada with Coach USA) so Safeway would not use them for Canada East 7 days or the USA. PW is affiliated with IMG and I guess that's what Safeway was looking at when they gave them work.

Megabus Rider
so is Coach Canada going to put the Safeway livery back on the red MCI j4500 and Prevost H3-45? They just put on a small decal near the entrance door on some of them, otherwise they can program the Destination Sign to "Safeway Tours"
noahrp24
I am just wondering how may units does Coach Canada have for the 2014 Prevost H3-45 coaches. I've highest fleet number for those coaches I have seen is 91081. Is there 81+ units for this order?

global_happy_traveller
Those corridors had lackluster performances and were slated to be shut down for some time. Static schedules, milk runs (due to regulations), limited publicity and high automobile dependency with low density areas were probably the main reasons why it underperformed.
