However, this end of service will be the same as any other regular Sunday Service with most buses having their last trip leaving the Downtown core at 2345. Route 2 heading to Killarney 17th Ave. will still have the last Departure from Downtown at 2405 and the new Sunday Service on the route 301 will have its last departure from Downtown to the West Side at 2355. With the shortage of Taxi Cabs this year, it should be interesting. I hope people will be making the right decision and not getting behind the wheel after having their drinks. What's service like in Edmonton and other places? Edmonton will probably be at least better than Calgary's! Happy New Year to Everyone! Enjoy and Be Safe. James Posted December 29, 2006 Report Share Posted December 29, 2006 Edmonton and area: Free New Year's Eve Transit Catch a ride for FREE on ETS, St. Albert and Strathcona County transit systems on New Year's Eve. ETS free service starts at 6 p.m. on December 31 and continues until 3:30 a.m. on January 1. Special ETS Fireworks Service Extra late night service from West Edmonton Mall and Jasper Place (along Route 1), Northgate (along Route 9), Mill Woods (along Route 8), Westmount (along Route 5) and Southgate Transit Centres (along Route 9) has been added to provide service before and after the fireworks display. Service will begin at approximately 9 p.m. Buses providing this extra service will travel to and from Downtown, near Churchill Square. LRT frequency will be increased before and after the fireworks. New Years Eve Downtown Celebrations Detours DATS Service DATS is extending its hours of service on December 31. If I read the route 7 schedule correctly, there is about an hour and 20 minutes after the last bus before the first bus for New Years Day goes out again. For example, route 109 is a "late night" route but the last trip finishes before midnight, does that make it a candidate, or are we only going to see mainline routes and a few others, such as the 115, 125 and the like. Michael Marriott Posted December 29, 2006 Report Share Posted December 29, 2006 The "Borderline" late night routes, which only have a handful of trips going into the late night do not get extended service. The routes with extended late night service this year are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 50, 52, 70, 74, 75, 76, 77, 81, 86, 113, 125, 136, 153, 180, 181, 182, 185, LRT, 301, 302, 306, 316, 317, 318 and 325. The 109 and 128 just have a couple late evening weekday trips that happen to cross over into the late night time period, so even if New Year's Eve was on a weekday, those two routes don't get extended service. The 115 stops at 9 on a Sunday, so it gets no extended service, but it would if New Year's Eve fell on a weekday or Saturday, like it has in previous years. Generally, any route that runs in the full late night of whatever day of the week new year's eve is will get extended. For instance, this year the 151 does not get extended service since it stops running at 7:00 pm on a Sunday. However the 181 stops running at 6 on a normal Sunday, and the 318 stops at 10 on Sundays, and both have extended service so go figure. Which routes are eligable? That was the beauty of catching the first run on the LRT to HSS last year.
