I thought that I would put this section to put up things that Metro Transit is changing pick to pick.

So I will start this is what Managment is telling us at the end of Aug the following changes will be made.
52,58,62,65 will be made Wheel Chair routes.
New Routes being added 8 Water Front ( will replace FRED, this is the last summer for FRED and both it and the 8 will run together for about 2 months), 22 Armdale(will service new garage) 57 Russel Lake ( These three routes will be Wheel Chair routes)

Route Changes: 65 Astral will only Service from Portland hills terminal to Astral. The New Route 57 will cover the portland estates part of the 65 and the new russel lake section. plus go to woodside ferry Removal of Fred in Oct. 3 Manors being discontinued ( this will most like be 6-9 months away)
We will also have 10 of the Nova LFS Artics in service which will most likley be found on the 52
The Ragged Lake Transit Centre will be opened at the end of August

They Have told us all the above will be done for end of August but some may be put off as it gets closer I will keep you updated as I find out

Also too starting this Sunday May 23 the Routes 10,54,66,72 will no longer service the Tacoma Terminal( the terminal will be shut down) Routes will now travel Hartlen to Valley Field.
The 41,42 will be in service this summer as well.

How come the 41 and the 42 will be running all summer?
I thought that they were university buses and stopped
service from the end of April to the beggining of September?

And do you have an idea when the first NovaBus LFS Artic will arrive
here in Halifax? (And when they wil start service?)

The 41 and 42 will run during the summer because it was easier to keep all the shifts for the drivers the same, they are focusing on the new garage opening and the new shifts that will be created because of that.
I have heard the artics might be here in late June, they are wating for the Ragged lake garage to be done as they will be stored there. They will probably be in service at the earliest the end of August.

And a little "satelite" garage just around the corner from Ilsley Garage that used to be a schoolbus garage. This property is used to store Metrolink and MetroX buses, plus a handful of D40LFs on the side.

The sateite garage will close in august once the Ragged lake garage opens that will give us two 24/7 fully operational garages. There is also talk that in 5-7 will have a third as well.

Annual ridership is about 25 million: that's a 40 percent jump in six years.

For those interested, Metro Transit's annual service plan was just published, outlining in detail the plans for upcoming schedule changes. Included are up-to-date individual route statistics, including ridership and cost-recovery ratios (starting on page 32). There are also renderings and plans for the new Highfield and Bridge terminals. Quite an interesting read!

That was intresting, a lot of the ridership numbers I thought where diferent then they really where.
Even as a driver I was suprised that 52 ridership was around the same number as the 10. Also thought the 80 had a higher ridership then that.

I guess after all the hard work to expand more service outside Halifax. Aren't there development building new suburbs?
More and more transit system are sticking to LF because of economical issues! Where as HF, it will be a rare to see in much future times!

As of April 2009, I have finally rode Nova Classic T-drive, two types of different engine! Which ones is better? Series 50 all the way man!

Hi, I'm a new user of this forum and am interested in Metro Transit. I have a question about the changes occuring on the 29th of August. I was reading on the Metro Transit website about a route 65 "Caldwell." This is a change from the old name of the route being the 65 "Astral." I am aware of the route now terminating at the Portland Hills Terminal rather than Penhorn Mall/Woodside Ferry Terminal and the area taken away being serviced by route 57 "Russel Lake." My question is why is there a name change on the 65?
I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.
I'm so obsessed with Metro Transit, that I can compare personalities to bus routes!

They thought that it would better represent where it goes and terminates. It well help tell people who are not familiar with the area. It will also help show that route has been changed as well.

Hi, I've been noticing that since the changes that occurred at the end of August, I've been seeing MetroLink buses on non-MetroLink routes. On the ride home after school today I saw a MetroLink bus on the 56. This isn't the first time I've seen this. I've also seen them on the 17, 18, and the 61. I'm wondering what's going on that is making MetroLink buses service on other routes.

The main thing that has lead to this is that they are short buses. This happening because to many have broken down, and that there where not enough buses as it was. They use to only use them on separate routes during rush hour. But now it us becoming actual night shifts. I would think this will continue until the end of Nov when they introduce the service reductions and by then 10 more of the Nova LFS Artics should be showing up. Also to a lesser degree during the heat wave at the end of last month beginning of this month. When we saw even night temps push past 30.They were changing off as many drivers a they could trying to give them A/C buses. On another note I don't know if any one has seen the metro x buses doing regular routes. So far I have heard of them on the 31,32,33,34,35 82 and as of today the 1 ( I'm confused by that one as for the last two weeks they were keeping them to express runs or rush hour 82s).

Wow, that shortage certainly isn't good. It must be straining all available resources in terms of buses and drivers. But, as you said things will get better as the reductions and additional buses come in. I read up that there is going to be a lot of reduction in Sackville/Bedford with routes like the 82 and 83 losing a trip per night as well as the 88 and 89 losing all service outside of weekday rush hour, as well as other changes outside of Sackville which will see the 3 lose all service (I've seen this route at the NSCC on Leeds St. and although not empty, it's doesn't have many passengers on it.) As for the heat before Hurricane Earl showed up, I'm certainly glad I had that week off as it must be hard to work in that type of heat, especially with no air conditioning. I've yet to see a MetroX bus on a conventional route, though I'll certainly post here if I do. Thanks for your insight on this.

As tossing a Metrolinx bus on a reg. route, expect some seats vandelism!

I think in the past they used to do that a lot when they had a lot of buses out for safety inspections.

As for the MetroX buses...I would certainly hate to get one of those on a route like the 1 or 33. Almost as bad as the morning I rode an inbound 68 to Halifax on a D30LF.

Apparently the shortage is even worse now; today I saw Nova Classic 975 on route 17. Hope no one with a wheel chair was waiting on that bus.
