Spoddendale (England)
One of the buses I regularly drive on school services here in England is a 100 seat tri-axle Volvo double decker which was originally new to Citybus in Hong Kong in 1990. On Christmas Day 1992 the original bus caught fire. The chassis was rebuilt from 11 metre to 12 metre and re-bodied in Hong Kong using a body kit supplied by Alexander of Scotland, the company that built the original body. The bus weighs 17210 kgs when empty. A few years ago quite a number of these buses were bought by British companies and they were shipped back here for further service. They were mainly used to carry school children but the Stagecoach Group also used them on their low budget inter-city Megabus services. If you would like to see my photographs of the bus, a set appears on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/49744222@N08/sets/72157631539328642/with/6828885917/ The regular runs of this bus, used only on Mondays to Fridays schooldays, is: 0650 Bury St Edmunds to Mildenhall and West Row (service 355) arriving 0730 0735 West Row and Mildenhall to Bury St Edmunds (service 955) arriving 0851 1535 Bury St Edmunds to Mildenhall and Lakenheath (service 955) arriving 1708 1715 Lakenheath and Mildenhall to Bury St Edmunds (service 355) arriving 1817 The full timetables can be seen on the Suffolk County Council web-site http://www.suffolkonboard.com/timetables_leaflets/bus_timetable_by_service_number Select service 355 or service 955 to view the required timetable I hope this is of interest! Duncan
I don't know how to break this to you Spoddendale but Citybus 341 was a pure Leyland Olympian, Volvo didn't start building olympians until 1994. It sure was a nice bus though.
FS1819
Is it harder to drive than other Leyland Olympians? I have heard that Citybus drivers avoided this bus outside peak hours, owing to heavy steering and brakes.
