Hey guys,
I was walking around the mall today until one place caught my attention - a cell phone provider named Koodo Mobile. I'm not familar what Koodo mobile is, but I picked up one of their brochures and they claim to be having the cell phone providers that absolutely has no system fees at all (and/or to some extent). Has anyone heard about this lately? There's also an official website if anyone wants to check it out: www.koodomobile.com What's your view? -------------------- |

I pay less and get more through Bell, despite the system fees. -------------------- |

No Caller ID included? I would've considered them but it costs $5/month...
Though I can build my own plan, and that looks good... $25/month. I may switch if they let me keep my phone. I have the same one they offer, but through Telus right now. Looks like they are launching March 20th in Alberta. Nothing on Wikipedia about them. -------------------- |

No details or information provided, they arrived in a plain brown box and without any detail at all. I red the packaging and it only stated that this is not a pay-as-you-go phone and a credit check was required. But that's as far as I got. The prices vary from $74.97 to $199.97, which are about standard for the Virgin and Telus phones we sell. I'm just checking the website now to see what's up with all this. -------------------- Visit my new Montreal Transportation Information Site:

They look like Telus' version of Solo Mobile.
Coverage map is similar to what I remember on Telus' website years ago, and they charge for web text messaging. -------------------- |

Absolutely no system access fees and it DOES include free caller ID. Koodo fails big time. -------------------- |

Yeah I think Virgin Mobile will be my next provider. Have been looking into them but since I bought a new phone 4 months ago I can't justify moving right away.

Yeah I think Virgin Mobile will be my next provider. Have been looking into them but since I bought a new phone 4 months ago I can't justify moving right away. I have some preliminary details regarding a new Virgin mobile project that will be launched in the very near future at our store. It's a Virgin contract type service rather than a pay-as-you-go. http://www.virginmobile.ca/site/en/pricesA...k_Your_Plan.pdf -------------------- Visit my new Montreal Transportation Information Site:

Too expensive. I don't use my phone enough to make even a $25/month plan worth it.

I know of people who went with Virgin about 2 years ago and had to switch off because the pay-to-go rates were changing too much (Paying same for less time). Unsure if any of you have had that problem.
But, judging from what I have read here, Virgin seems better than Koodo. -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Their rates are still cheaper than Telus, so it's good enough for me.

Their rates are still cheaper than Telus, so it's good enough for me. Funny you should mention Telus, it is infact affiliated directly with Telus. (More than the Virgin Mobile / Bell Mobility affiliation, which only uses the Bell Network). I checked in the computer today and Koodo Mobile says that it is run by "Telus Canada". They came into our store today and took down the Virgin Mobile display (didn't think they were allowed to move another company's display) and then replace it with their own, which is a 3 foot by 5 foot white backer with 4 dummy phones and a few information pamphlets, which still don't really explain everything, and the guy left before I even arrived in the morning, so I still know nothing about this company, besides what it says in the computer... Oh well.. -------------------- Visit my new Montreal Transportation Information Site:

Yeah as I mentioned earlier, "They look like Telus' version of Solo Mobile." - it appears to be that way.
http://www.teleclick.ca/2007/12/koodo-mobi...ll-phone-brand/ QUOTE Koodo Mobile: Telus’ New Discount Cell Phone Brand? 6:15 am on December 17, 2007 | Category: Business, Telecom Services, Wireless, Cell Phones business/telus.jpg Analysts are speculating that Canadian carrier, Telus Corp., will launch a new discount cell phone brand next year, after registering the business name “Koodo Mobile” with various provincial governments in recent months. Telus registered the Koodo brand in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island in August, and in Saskatchewan last month. It also acquired the domain name, koodomobile.ca, earlier this year. Company spokesman, Jim Johannsson, acknowledged that Telus has considered launching a second wireless brand, but declined to comment specifically on Koodo. Telus’ main competitors in the cell phone market, Rogers Wireless and Bell Mobility, both have separate, youth-oriented wireless brands (Fido and Solo, respectively), and many analysts believe that Telus could appeal to a wider user base by following suit. “Alternate brands are all the rage,” commented SeaBoard Group telecom analyst, Iain Grant. “It allows you to do all sorts of things [for different groups] without diminishing the power of your principal brand.” Next phone I get will be through Virgin Mobile. -------------------- |

Looks like an attractive idea but I'm not so sure about going for a company like this. It seems a little to good to be true if you know what I mean.
Watch it's gonna be like AMP'd mobile. -------------------- |

There were some ads in Metro yesterday.
I think I'll be switching over to Virgin Mobile shortly... -------------------- |
