Metro Transit currently has a NFI DE60LFR Demo at the bus garage. It will not be running revenue service due to the lack of a farebox and sign programming, but this is exciting news for those of us who have been waiting for progress to be made on getting more artics. Chris was kind enough to go out and get a photo (which he's posted on the halifaxtransit discussion board), and it looks NICE! ;)

I'll post it here as well. I took it from on board another bus, so I was unable to get a wide shot. I'm hoping one of us will spot it actually out on the street before it's gone, and get a proper shot.

Will these buses replace the Classic artics on a one to one basis or does Metro Transit want expansion buses?

The one they got was from CATA in Michigan. The one in Halifax they have is coming from NFI, as you can tell it has a big NFI logo on it.
More and more transit system are sticking to LF because of economical issues! Where as HF, it will be a rare to see in much future times!

As of April 2009, I have finally rode Nova Classic T-drive, two types of different engine! Which ones is better? Series 50 all the way man!

2011 Charter: Able to manage to attend as there are some good ones to go for!

Most likely expansion only. The Classic artics are some of the most used vehicles in the fleet, but they've still got a lot of life left. In fact, several just went through their mid-life rebuilds earlier this year and look and feel great! Most likely the artics would be used for MetroLink, our BRT system. Or a new free downtown shuttle they're talking about implementing.

I don't see how an artic could be used for downtown shuttles. (FRED??)

Why not? They operate artics on other routes which operate in the downtown core, so they would have no problem getting around.

No idea. All we know is that Metro Transit is planning on using diesel-electric artics on the new downtown shuttle route, and since this demo is a hybrid...
I'm sure they're also evaluating it for other reasons as well, it's known they want to purchase some new artics someday for both the regular service and MetroLink/BRT.

Not sure if this is the same demo bus, but Saint John Transit has or is testing a DE60LFR in the Uptown Area.

Looks like it. The "Work Bus" sign interesting. I can only guess it has something to do with the testing at New Flyer. I wonder if it will come down here...

If anything it'll visit Mississauga Transit for sure as MT's getting 22 of these for 2009.

Yes. Last year, before giving Nova the contract for the 45 artics, Metro Transit ordered two hybrid artics (715 and 716) from New Flyer for a planned downtown shuttle service that was shelved. The two arrived late last month, and they will now be put into regular service sometime in the next few weeks/months.

Really nice photos, by the way, Raymond! Do you work for Transit, or have contacts on the inside?

Contacts on the inside.

I have heard so much talk about these buses And finally decided to check it out for myself.
I think I'm the first with photos of 715 and 716 on the Internet. I couldn't find any other photos
anywhere! You'd think that after a month of testing that there would be maybe 1 photo? but none!!

I hope that I could help
