The AMT just released the consist of the NJT Locomotives and Coaches they've leased. Based on the amount of locomotives, we might see NJT locomotives with AMT coaches:

Why are they leasing them, and for how long?

I decided to not come to Montreal this year, mainly because of the trolleybus decision in Edmonton, and so wanting to make sure I get some good shots this year of trolleybuses before they might be gone. I'm hoping now to make it to Montreal in April or May of 2009. I'm certainly hoping the NJT equipment is still around then!

They're leasing them because the Quebec Government told transit authorities to come up with "Emergency Plans" to increase, train and bus service in the Greater Montreal Area. All this was done because of the dramatic increase in the price of gas recently. I don't know how long they'll be in Montreal but I'll be on the lookout for them....

7 locomotives???

Something big is coming - they won't be running 2 car Comet's behind them, and I don't think they have enough equipment to make those trains that much longer.

Sorry to be frank here, but this gas price increase is not subsiding anytime soon. i dont understand why they didnt see this comming? Do they have something on order in place of what is being leased? Unless this is a semi long term solution? I dont see GO transit in a panic leasing equiptment.....is that due to better long term growth planning?

They have 160 Multilevels on order. Unfortunately, they won't be arriving until all of NJT's order is delivered, which is projected to be sometime early next year.

These 14 cars (plus anything else they have coming, which I'm thinking that they do) will allow them to operate more trains until the first of those 160 cars arrive.

You don't see GO in a panic because they haven't been told by the Government to be in a panic - I'm sure that behind the scenes they are kicking themselves that they can't greatly increase the size and number of trains that they run.

NJ Transit had gotten 33 PL42AC locos from Alstom, but only now are surplus GP40-FH2s (the 4130-4144 batch) being retired. The two F40PH-2CATs are the only ones I know that are off the NJT roster. Also, you must note that the cars (which are 40 years old) being leased may be for add-ons to trains with the locos being also for more trains plus spares.

Actually, it's 326 on order, which will be a replacement for the Comet Is, Comet IIIs, and a partial replacement for the Arrow III MU cars (the remainder will be replaced by 110 EMUs).

AMT's order is only for 30 with the option for 130 more.

That, now is like asking where we'll see 60-013 next smile.gif

The NJT locomotives and coaches will probably be added to the CP Pool.
As soon as I get more info, this thread will be updated!

I'm sorry, when I said 326, that was the NJT order I was referring to (of the same cars), which was 234, then 279, and now 326.

And sorry that you have to wait. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

None yet. Hopefully the AMT will send out a Press Release or a Notice to Passengers when they do arrive (seeing that schedules are likely to be modified).

One thing I see is the Candiac/Delson line getting these cars to increase capacity. Right now they are full up using GP9RM + EGU + four 90 seat Go-Go's on each set. Using NJT Cars would increase the number of seats by about 30% with the same 4 cars, or better yet: F40PH + Four 121 seat coach + One 115 seat cab, giving a increase of ~67%!! (This last option is only possible if deleting the EGU gives enough space to park an extra coach)

Do they have proper cab signaling equipment installed?

AFAIK none of the lines AMT runs a use cab signalling (Deux-Montagnes maybe, but I doubt it ), so I would assume that any equipment for that would be removed by NJT before delivery.

I never know why the AMT never thought of that. That EGU takes up too much space and we already have enough Go-Go's to add one more car to each sets (2 total).

No AMT lines, including the Deux-Montagnes line, use cab signaling.

Great initiative by AMT. I foresee that with the Turcot Interchange major road work, the CP Vaudreuil Sub will see increased demand on Vaudreuil-Rigaud and Delson-Candiac lines for sure, perhaps Blainville--St-Jerome as well (CN Deux-Montagnes is always crowded at rush hours but I digress). Since the CP line bypasses Turcot significantly, maybe the AMT wants to buy more rolling stock before people freak out and crowd already crowded trains. Get ready also for a bunch of buses from the West to short turn at Angrignon ex: 211, 221.

So if they dont have cab signaling then is everything controlled by Central Control? Do we have cab signaling on Go transit?

Well... Since you asked:

Deux-Montagnes Line
- CN Deux-Montagnes Subdivision (Central Station to Deux-Montagnes)
- Entirely CTC including switches and sidings

Vaudreuil Line
- CP Westmount Subdivision (Windsor to Montreal-West)
- Entirely CTC including switches and sidings

- CP Vaudreuil Subdivision (Montreal-West to Dorion)
- CTC from Montreal-West to Dorval
- OCS/ABS from Dorval to Dorion

- AMT M&O Subdivision (Dorion to Rigaud)
- OCS/ABS from Dorion to Rigaud
- I'm told CTC is used in the Vaudreuil yard.....

Blainville Line
- CP Adirondack Subdivision (Montreal-West to Parc)
- Entirely CTC

- CP Parc Subdivision (Parc to Saint-Jerome)
- Currently OCS/ABS from Parc until Saint-Antoine Yard (just before St-Jerome station)
- CTC is being installed at Saint-Martin Junction

Saint-Hilaire Line
- CN Saint-Hyacinthe Subdivision (Central to Saint-Hilaire)
- Entirely CTC including switches and sidings

Delson / Candiac Line
- CP Adirondack Subdivision (Montreal-West to Candiac)
- CTC from Montreal-West to Delson
- OCS/ABS from Delson to Candiac

Alex
