GO Transit 1600-1619

GO Transit 1600-1619 were Prevost LeMirage XL-40 coaches built in 1999. More than 10 years prior to their delivery, a Prevost LeMirage demonstrator was trialed by GO Transit.

Each of these 40-foot coaches feature 49 reclining seats. They were the first coaches acquired by GO Transit that are equipped with a wheelchair lift. They were also the first to introduce the green interior colour scheme and feature Pocatec LCD destination signs.

Ten of these buses were refurbished by Eastway Refurbishing in 2005. All buses received Luminator Horizon LED destination signs in place of the Pocatec LCD signs. Because of the smaller side destination signs, it was not uncommon to have text scroll on the display.

In April 2009, bike racks were installed on 10 of the later buses which would be kept longer. The first 10 units were retired at the end of April, and were stored at Newmarket GO Garage until they were sold off. The first 5 were sold to Mississauga Truck and Bus and the latter 5 to Can-Ar, as noted in July 2009. The second batch of retirees, 1610, 1611, 1614-1616, were retired in April 2010 while the remainder were retired in May 2010.

For some reason, GO only removed the last fleet number digit when the second batch of Prevosts (and the remaining 2000-series Orion V's) were retired, so any untouched units since then may still be numbered "161".
