Power/Fuel Hydrogen fuel cell hybrid

The Proterra EcoRide FCBE35 is a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell hybrid transit bus. Using battery cells from Altairnano, the HFC35 is capable of completely recharging in six minutes with Proterra's quick charge station to limit its hydrogen usage. It can travel up to 250 miles before needing more hydrogen or electricity. Originally introduced as the HFC35, the EcoRide name was added in early 2009. Shortly after that, the name was changed again to it's present name.

The project, codenamed Origin One, made the local news in February 2006 when CBS Denver ran a story about Proterra's (then Mobile Energy Solutions) work in developing a bus powered by batteries rechargeded with hydrogen fuel cells.[1] The first hydrogen powered bus was due to roll off the assembly line in spring of 2007. New Haven, Conn. had already ordered two buses, and Proterra was in negotiations with seven other U.S. transit agencies and three foreign countries for purchases.

The bus bus was introduced at the 2008 APTA Expo in San Diego, California in November 2008. Later that year, Burbank Bus was selected a the test market for the bus.[2]
