Route Details

This route connects Finch West Station, Finch Station, Scarborough Centre Station, Kennedy Station, the Finch East corridor, and the Morningside Heights neighbourhood. It services the York University Busway, Finch Avenue between Dufferin Street and Morningside Avenue, Mantis Road, Nightstar Road, Morningside Avenue between Nightstar Road and Oasis Boulevard, Oasis Boulevard between Morningside Avenue and Seasons Drive, Seasons Drive, Staines Road, and McCowan Road between Finch Avenue East and Triton Road. This route operates express and makes limited stops at major intersections only west of McCowan Road. All stops are served east of McCowan Road. Western terminals include Finch Station for branches 939A and 939C, and Finch West Station for branch 939B. Eastern terminals include Scarborough Centre Station for branches 939A and 939B, and Morningside Heights for branch 939C. The 939A and 939B operate further south from Scarborough Centre Station to Kennedy Station as part of the Line 3 Bus Replacement Program.
During the weekday, branch 939A only operates in the evenings with branch 939B operating at all other times. Branch 939C only operates during rush hours on weekdays.

History
- October 12, 2010 - Route is introduced as 199 Finch Rocket after the cancellation of the 39E Finch East
branch.
- September 1, 2013 - Sunday service added.
- March 27, 2016 - Route reorganized to extend service westward to York University and eastward to Morningside Heights. Two new branches are added: 199B (York University - Scarborough Centre Station) and 199C (Finch Station - Morningside Heights).
- December 17, 2017 - With the opening of the new Line 1 extension, the western terminal of branch 199B is changed to connect with Finch West Station. Buses will no longer operate within the York University grounds.
- September 2, 2018 - With the implementation of the TTC's express network, this route was renumbered and renamed to 939 Finch Express. New express stop added for branch 939B at Torresdale Avenue/Goldfinch Court.
- October 7, 2018 - Weekend service added to branch 939B.
- March 23, 2020 - Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the re-allocation of service to busier routes, service is suspended until further notice.
- January 3, 2021 - In response to an increase in ridership, service on weekdays is restored to pre-pandemic levels. Weekend service remains suspended.
- March 28, 2021 - This route was transferred to the brand new McNicoll Division.
- September 5, 2021 - Full weekend service is restored.
- November 21, 2021 - Due to a shortage of operators, all weekend service is suspended until further notice.
- May 8, 2022 - All weekend service is restored.
- September 3, 2023 - Weekday midday service on branch 939A is restored.
- November 19, 2023 - Branches 939A and 939B are extended further south to serve as an express bus between Scarborough Centre Station and Kennedy Station as part of the Line 3 Bus Replacement Plan.
Overnight Service
Overnight service is provided by 302 Kingston Rd-McCowan on McCowan Road between Triton Road and Finch Avenue East, 336 Finch West on Finch Avenue West between Dufferin Street and Yonge Street, and 339 Finch East on Finch Avenue East between Yonge Street and Finchdene Square. The entire portion of the express service routing is provided by 343 Kennedy between Kennedy Station and Ellesmere Road. Between Kennedy Rd and Brimley Rd, overnight service is also provided by the 395 York Mills .
