Coast Mountain Bus Company 4116–4143 were a set of 28 GMDD TC40-102N "Classic" buses built in 1987 in "Hillclimber" configuration. Of all the "Classic" models in the fleet, these were the only ones manufactured by GM before manufacturing went to MCI.

Compared to the other "Classic" units in the fleet, these featured a small rear window, bottom-discharge tailpipe and a narrow front destination sign. All units in this set were non-accessible and in urban configuration.

These units were built in Québec just outside of Montréal and had 50 per cent more window area, double-stream front and rear doors, power steering, quieter performance and more space for standees. These 28 units were also built to "hill-climbing" specifications, with a Detroit Diesel Turbocharged engine that could handle grades up to 20 per cent (compared to the average 12–14 per cent for other buses). Each unit costs approximately $200,000 and had a life expectancy of 20 years. Initially, these units were based out of Port Coquitlam, Surrey, Burnaby and North Vancouver and debuted on routes serving SFU, the 147, 148, 229, 230 and 319 routes.[1]

In December 1989, half of the fleet was taken out of service for repairs due to hairline cracks being developed on the radius arm bracket. The cracks were discovered during a regular inspection and a decision was made by BC Transit to have all 28 buses withdrawn from service for inspection.[2]

From 1987–1996, these units were under the old fleet numbering system and numbered based on yard assignment and started from X411 (X denoting yard number). All units were renumbered in 1996 to their current numbers and while they formerly operated under BC Transit with Vancouver Regional Transit System, they ran with the same numbers after April 1999 when all Greater Vancouver operations split off into TransLink.

Some units were sold to BC Transit after retirement for service in its contingency fleet.
