GO Transit route 71 'Stouffville'
|See also||Stouffville GO Train|
71 Stouffville is a route operated by GO Transit. It serves as the Train-Bus replacement for the Stouffville GO Train during off-peak periods and connected with train services to Toronto Union Station at Lincolnville GO Station during peak periods, with the exception of the first two train trips in the afternoon from Union, which connect at Unionville GO Station. This is a daily service.
Train-Bus service commenced on the Stouffville line in the early 1990s, providing a way for off-peak and counter-peak travel along the corridor.
A train-meet service existed between Uxbridge, the end of the Uxbridge Sub, and Mount Joy GO during the early 2000s. Although buses ran right past Stouffville GO Station, Mount Joy was selected because of the availability of an off-street bus loop. This train-meet service was designed to encourage and build ridership to Uxbridge for an eventual extension of train service.
In 2007, the Lincolnville layover yard was opened; although the GO station built within it was not yet constructed, trips ending in Stouffville were extended to loop in the facility; before, buses looped in a parking lot on Park Drive. Once the station opened, train-meets from Uxbridge were cut back to Lincolnville.
An additional train trip from Union Station to Unionville was added in 2012, with a second one added in 2013. With this, train-bus service from Union Station operating in the vicinity of the two added trains were converted to train-meet trips at Unionville.
As of April 6, 2013, route 71 trips that do not end at Union Station were converted to route 70. Also, two morning train trips were added (one from Lincolnville and one from Unionville), along with one evening train trip. Train-bus service was also extended to 3:35am.
