Maple GO Station is a GO Transit train station located in Vaughan, ON. It is located north of Major Mackenzie Dr., east of Keele St.
The station platform is on the east side of the tracks. The station building is roughly in the middle of the platform, with the parking lot extending north and south of it. A walkway extends north of the platform to access McNaughton Rd., and from the end of Station St. to Major Mackenzie. Vehicle access to the station can be made from Hill St. (which connects Station St. to Major Mackenzie Dr.) at the south end of the parking lot and to Eagle Rock Way and Troon Ave. from the northeast end. Buses loop in the station parking lot from the entrance on Eagle Rock Way. Tickets are available from the station building during AM rush hours, and a Ticket Vending Machine is available at other times.
History
A rail station has existed at this location since 1853, when the Ontario, Simcoe and Huron Union Railroad operated service through it. The original station building was burnt down in a fire in 1903, when the present building was constructed (by the Grand Trunk Railway at this time) as its replacement. GO service began on the line to Bradford, including the stop at Maple, in 1982.
The city of Vaughan experienced a period of large growth during this time, and Maple GO soon became overcrowded in the late 1990s. The solution to this was to build a new station 2km further south, now Rutherford GO Station, which had much more parking facilities. The parking lot at Maple was largely expanded in the late 2000s, and an additional station entrance was built concurrently with new commercial development east of the station.
Connecting routes
Maple does not contain any off-street bus facilities; instead, they serve stops in the cul-de-sac on Eagle Rock Way, or on nearby Major Mackenzie Drive.
