The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, also known as Houston METRO or simply METRO, is the transit provider for Houston, Texas.

Bus

METRO has a current active fleet of 1,393 ACTIVE buses, which includes 40' conventional transit buses (diesel and hybrid models), 45' commuter buses (diesel and hybrid models), and paratransit vehicles.

Bikes on Buses

The low floor buses have bike racks in front of them for bicycle storage while the commuter coaches have a designated "curbside" compartment (bay) door for bicycle storage. Click here for more info about "Bikes on Buses."

Routes

Instructions on how to properly read a bus schedule:

1. Look for headings like "Weekday Eastbound," for the day and direction the bus route is heading.

2. Find the numbered dots and the name listed above the dots (called time points). These time points are places where the bus stops. NOTE: The listing on the bus schedule does not include all bus stops along the route.

3. Next, find the time point closest to where you are and where you want to go.

4. Check the column of times under your destination to find the time you want to arrive.

5. Move your finger left along that line to the time point nearest the place you want to board the bus. This is your departure time. Get Adobe Acrobat Reader free software for viewing and printing PDF files.


Local Service

Park & Ride (Commuter) Service

Most midday routes begin service before 11 a.m., while late-evening trips travel as late as 9 p.m. in some corridors.
