Toronto Transit Commission 7000-7134
Toronto Transit Commission 7000-7134 were Orion 05.501 buses ordered in 1995, and built and delivered in 1996. These were the first conventional accessible buses purchased by the TTC, and the first bus order by them since 1991.

History
Order
This order was purchased to replace the 90 Orion III buses numbered 6360-6419 and 6530-6559 upon the discovery of serious frame cracking and corrosion and the assumption that they would not last the required 18 years. The 1996 Orion order was originally placed with Nova Bus, presumably for their Classic model.[1] The deal fell through when the Province of Ontario agreed to honour an agreement with the Province of Québec that prevented one from selling buses to the other.[2][3]
Refurbishments
From June 2004 to February 2006 this series of buses received their midlife rebuild, except for 7000 which was rebuilt in 2003. This included an overhaul of the major components, frame, and body. In addition to new paint, the buses received fiberglass body panels.
Modifications
Between 2000 and 2001, the first 88 buses from the series, 7000-7087, received UWE systems for outdoor storage.
Since their rebuild, these buses received automated announcements, bike racks and CCTV cameras. In June 2009, 7127 received a prototype driver barrier that consisted of a polycarbonate upper portion and a metal bottom portion. However when the upper portion is stowed behind the driver, it interferes with the seat immediately behind the driver. A revised barrier with a folding top section was installed on all buses afterwards.
In an attempt to improve the legibility of the destination signs, 7116 was fitted with black lights and 7110 and 7131 were fitted with actinic blue fluorescent tubes in February 2011. This was not expanded to other buses, however 7110 retained these lamps for its full life cycle.
Movement History
The first 75 buses, (7000-7074) were delivered to Arrow Road and the remaining 60 buses (7075-7134) were delivered to Malvern. Upon the opening of the New Eglinton Garage in 2002, it received 7000-7087 for UWE storage while Malvern retained 7088-7134. They were replaced at Eglinton upon the arrival of the 74xx and 75xx buses between 2003 and 2004, which allowed the remaining Orion IIIs and the 6500 and 6600 series D40 buses to retire.
Deployment History
These buses were regularly found on routes 21 Brimley, 34 Eglinton East, 36 Finch West, 38 Highland Creek, 39 Finch East, 42 Cummer, 46 Martin Grove, 53 Steeles East, 57 Midland, 60 Steeles West, 72 Pape, 75 Sherbourne, 81 Thorncliffe Park, 84 Sheppard West, 85 Sheppard East, 87 Cosburn, 94 Wellesley, 95 York Mills, 100 Flemingdon Park, 106 York University, 108 Downsview, 129 McCowan North, 131 Nugget, 133 Neilson, 134 Progress, 139 Finch-Don Mills, 190 Scarborough Centre Rocket, and 199 Finch Rocket.
Retirements
The first bus retired from this series was 7090 in March of 2012. Retirements of these buses started in mid-2013. All were originally expected to be retired from service by the end of 2014, however some continued in regular service into the new year. The remaining two units, 7013 and 7123, saw their final day of service on February 13, 2015. Unit 7106 continued to operate on the Toronto Islands service until late May 2015 when it retired.
