High Park Station is a rapid transit station and bus terminal operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The station is located at 35 Quebec Avenue. The station is named after nearby High Park which lies to the south just across Bloor Street West.
History
High Park Station opened on May 11, 1968 when the Bloor-Danforth subway line was extended further west from Keele Station to Islington Station in Etobicoke.
Station description
The station is comprised of three levels: street entrance and bus terminal level, and underground concourse level, and subway platform level.
There are total of four entrances for this station. The two entrances for the main station building are accessed from the east side of Quebec Avenue and from the bus platform leading off of the west side of High Park Avenue. The two other automatic entrances are accessed from north and south stubs of Parkview Gardens where the subway tracks split the road. Despite having a wheelchair ramp at the Quebec Avenue entrance, only the bus terminal area is accessible.
Inside the main entrance building is the bus terminal waiting area with doors leading to the outdoor sheltered bus platform. The bus platform stretches east out to High Park Avenue and features a bus loop. Buses enter and exit from High Park Avenue. As the bus terminal is not within the fare-paid area of the station, passengers require a transfer when connecting between the subway and buses. Connection to 300 Bloor-Danforth night buses can be made just outside the station at the High Park Avenue or Quebec Avenue bus stops along Bloor Street West.
In the underground concourse, there are stairs and escalators which provide access between the bus terminal at street level and the eastbound and westbound subway platforms. The station collector's booth and fare gates are also found here. The subway platforms are of the typical Bloor-Danforth style, with white wall tiles and a black trim.
Easier Access
As part of the TTC's Easier Access Program to make all subway stations accessible, High Park Station will be receiving two new elevators to provide barrier-free access between street level and the subway platforms. In order to house the new elevators, the Quebec Avenue main entrance building will be expanded and completely redesigned to span the entire western part of the station property.[1] In addition to the improvements to the accessibility and the design of the Quebec Avenue entrance building, new automatic sliding doors, CCTV cameras, and improved signage are included in the scope of the project. Construction on the project began on June 20, 2022 and is estimated to be completed in Q4 2024.[2]
