Route Details

This route mainly services Nugget Avenue and McLevin Avenue between McCowan Road and Tapscott Road. It also provides service on Sewells Road east of Neilson Road as well to the Morningside Heights neighbourhood. Its western terminal is Kennedy Station and the eastern terminal is Old Finch Avenue and Morningview Trail for its one branch, 131.
Buses operate northbound via Morningview Trail before 3pm and northbound via Littles Road after 3pm.

History
- February 14, 1999 - Sunday and holiday service is introduced.
- February 13, 2000 - The east-end of the route is changed to loop on-street via Morningview Trail, Old Finch Avenue, and Littles Road. Buses no longer serve the off-street loop on the north side of Old Finch Avenue just east of Morningview Trail.
- September 3, 2000 - Route is extended from Scarborough Centre Station to Kennedy Station on the new 131E Nugget Express branch to provide relief to the overcrowded Scarborough RT. Buses will only operate during the rush hour and run express via Eglinton Avenue East and Brimley Road to Scaroborugh Centre Station.
- May 14, 2002 - Early evening service on Sundays and holidays is added.
- August 31, 2003 - An express stop is added on peak-period 131E branch at Lawrence Avenue East and Brimley Road in both directions.
- September 7, 2004 - Late evening service is added for weekends and holidays.
- August 31, 2008 - Bike rack service is added and route is made accessible with lift-equipped buses.
- June 22, 2014 - Due to a system-wide reorganization of route branch designations, local branch 131 to Old Finch & Morningview is redesignated 131A.
- September 6, 2016 - Due to continued overcrowding on the Scarborough RT, express service between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station is supplemented with the new peak-period express branch 131F running only between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station.
- March 27, 2017 - Supplemental peak-period express branch 131F between Kennedy Station and Scarborough Centre Station is eliminated due to low ridership.
- November 18, 2018 - Branch 131A is changed to 131. Limited-stop peak-period service on branch 131E is eliminated and replaced with the new route 903 Kennedy-Scarborough Centre Express

- November 19, 2023 - Route is extended further south to serve as an express bus from Scarborough Centre Station to Kennedy Station as part of the Line 3 Bus Replacement Plan.
Overnight Service
Overnight service is provided along the express portion of the route is provided by 343 Kennedy between Kennedy Station and Ellesmere Road. Between Kennedy Rd and Brimley Rd, overnight service is also provided by the 395 York Mills . The rest of the route does not have overnight service, however, the route operates until 1:00 AM every day.
