Route Details
This route services Broadview Avenue north of Danforth Avenue. It also provides service on O'Connor Drive west of Coxwell Avenue. Its western terminal is Broadview Station and the eastern terminal is Coxwell Avenue for its one branch, 8.

- May 1, 1939 - Route begins operation and operates during rush hour and midday on Saturdays only.
- Fall 1956 - Route given the number 8. Branch 8 operated daily from Coxwell to Danforth. Branch 8A operated during rush hours only from Pape to Danforth.
- March 21, 1961 - Branch 8A replaced by branch 8B, operating between Thorncliffe Park and Danforth.
- February 26, 1966 - With opening of the Bloor-Danforth Subway, all branches serve Broadview Station. Branch 8B incorporated to route 81.
- May 13, 1968 - Branch 8A resurrected.
- September 5, 1972 - Branch 8B created, operating weekdays between Broadview Station and Queen via Donlands and Jones.
- January 27, 1978 - Branch 8A eliminated.
- November 22, 1980 - Branch 8 extended to Coxwell. Branch 8C created to replace branch 8B with service extended to Commissioners.
- October 13, 1984 - Branch 8C incorporated to rerouted 56 Leaside and new 83 Jones.
- February 18, 1996 - Service span reduced to 6am to 11pm daily due to system-wide cuts.
- September 4, 2005 - Route made accessible.
- November 23, 2008 - Route service extended to 1:00am.
- May 9, 2011 - Service removed due to system-wide cuts after 10pm on weekends and holidays.
- September 6, 2015 - Service restored after 10pm on weekends and holidays. Buses now operate whenever the subway is open.
- March 28, 2021 - This route was transferred to Eglinton upon the opening of the brand new McNicoll Division.
- June 18, 2023 - In anticipation of track construction requiring the full closure of the Broadview Station bus/streetcar terminal and roads within the vicinity of the station, the route is extended east along O'Connor Drive and St. Clair Avenue East to Warden Station replacing service on the 70C O'Connor branch. Buses will not loop via Coxwell Avenue and Plains Road. As the start of construction has been delayed, buses continue to operate to Broadview Station.
- September 3, 2023 - Track construction around and within Broadview Station has begun and buses will no longer serve the station. The route is now interlined with 62 Mortimer at the intersection of Broadview Avenue/Mortimer Avenue. Southbound buses will operate eastbound 62 Mortimer service upon reaching Mortimer Avenue.
- November 19, 2023 - The route extension from Coxwell Avenue to Warden Station via St Clair Avenue East is made permanent. Route is no longer interlined with 62 Mortimer. Due to delays in the reopening of Broadview Station, the route will temporarily short turn on Broadview Avenue at Mortimer Avenue. New Sunday early morning service is introduced.

Overnight service is not provided, however, this route operates until 1:00 AM every day.
