York Region Transit route 53 'Woodspring-Clearmeadow'
53 Woodspring-Clearmeadow was a local route operated by YRT in Newmarket and East Gwillimbury, ON.
Basic
Route 53 served on a number of local streets including Woodspring Ave. and Clearmeadow Blvd.
This route had 2 main branches:
- 53 Green Lane - Mulock (Monday to Saturday)
- 53 Newmarket GO Bus Terminal - Mulock (Sundays)
This route served the northwestern and western Newmarket communities. It also served Green Lane Centre, Upper Canada Mall, and Sir William Mulock Secondary School. Some trips also served East Gwillimbury GO Station.
Route 53 connected to Viva Blue at Newmarket Terminal and Yonge/Mulock.
History
Route 53 began service on April 27, 2008.
Route 53's predecessor was route 57A's western routing to Newmarket Terminal, which replaced route 66, operating on a similar route to 53's southern portion.
Sunday/holiday service was cut to Yonge/Mulock (instead of Weston Produce) on August 31, 2008, which allowed route 53 to interline with route 57A.
On September 4, 2011, service to Aspenwood ended and routing diverted up Woodspring to Green Lane then completing its routing at the Green Lane Centre.
Route 53 was not well liked among passengers on Mulock Dr., as many had lost their direct service to Newmarket Terminal and Upper Canada Mall. As a result, route 53 was once again merged with route 57 on July 1, 2012.
Vehicles
Routes 53 saw a mix of 30ft service provided by E-Z Rider II/BRT/MAX and 40ft service provided by New Flyer D40LF or occasionally Orion VI.
