Bernard is a vivastation located at the intersection of Yonge Street, Bernard Avenue and Canyon Hill Avenue in Richmond Hill, ON.

Basic

Northbound:

• Located on Yonge Street just south of Bernard Avenue, the station consists of a fare machine and a regular shelter. Its stop number is 9790. Only northbound Viva Blue buses to Newmarket serve this station; buses ending at Bernard serve the stop inside the terminal. Directly behind the shelter is a set of stairs into Bernard Terminal.

Southbound:

• Located on Yonge Street south of Canyon Hill Avenue, the station consists of a fare machine and a regular shelter. Its stop number is 9791. All southbound Viva Blue buses (including ones exiting from Bernard Terminal) serve this stop.

Inside Terminal:

• Located inside Bernard Terminal at bay 2, the station consists of a fare machine beside the platform. Its stop number is 9789. Northbound Viva buses that short-turned at Bernard will use this bay to load/unload.

History

Bernard Terminal was opened in 1996 by GO Transit as a terminus to its Yonge 'C' buses, then the northern end of development in Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill Transit and later YRT operated local service into the terminal.

The southbound vivastation and the one inside the terminal opened on September 4, 2005 as part of Viva phase 1. They were used as the initial northern terminus of Viva Blue. The northbound vivastation opened on November 20, 2005 as part of Viva phase 3, when Viva Blue was extended to Newmarket.

The southbound stop was relocated further south of the intersection in 2017 due to construction on the Yonge Street Rapidway. The northbound fare machine and shelter were moved back from the roadway around the same time, although the bus stop remained in the same location.

On December 20, 2020, rapidway service at the Bernard VIVAstation began.
