The Bombardier MR90 (Materiel Roulant, proposed in 1990) is a type of single level electric multiple unit (EMU). They were used by exo on the exo6 Deux-Montagnes commuter rail line in the Greater Montreal Area.
History
The Société de transport de la communauté urbaine de Montréal (STCUM) ordered the 29 power cars, 25 trailer cars, and 4 trailer cars with cabs in 1992. They were delivered from 1994 to 1995 as the rehabilitated Deux-Montagnes line re-opened. Five 10 car trains were commonly used, with an additional eight car train as a backup.
The Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) was created in December 1995 to coordinate the planning and funding of regional transit in the Greater Montreal area. The AMT assumed responsibility of the commuter rail network from the STCUM on January 1, 1996. The Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM) succeeded the AMT on June 1, 2017. The Government of Quebec passed Bill 76 on May 18, 2016—changing the organization and governance of public transit in the region.[1] On May 23, 2018, the Réseau de transport métropolitain was rebranded as exo.[2] The MR90 cars still wore the AMT branding until they were withdrawn.
The Deux-Montagnes line is being replaced by the Réseau express métropolitain. With construction underway, the line needed to be permanently closed. The final day of service was on December 30, 2020. The MR90 cars were transported to exo's Pointe-Saint-Charles maintenance center where they will be stored. A request for information has been issued to determine the fate of the cars.[3]
