Burrelli Transit Service

Burrelli Transit Service, also known as L. Burrelli Transit Service or Westinghouse Valley Trailways after 1956, is a former public transit operator in the Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.

It is of note that Westinghouse Valley Trailways is completely unrelated to the National Trailways Bus System, also operating during that time period.

History

Timeline

  • Origins of service began in 1927 with two jitneys between East Pittsburgh and North Braddock.
  • In 1930, a second route was created to connect Braddock and Chalfont, via Forest Hills.
  • In 1942, a third route was created to serve Braddock and Crescent Hills in Penn Township.
  • In 1949, Miller Bus Lines became bankrupt, and Burrelli acquired the rights to three routes; adding Braddock-Forest Hills, Braddock-Wilkinsburg, and Maplewood Local Service.
  • In 1956, Burrelli Transit Service incorporated, and the service was re-branded as Westinghouse Valley Trailways.
  • On March 16, 1964, Burrelli Bus Service was acquired by the Port Authority of Allegheny County.
