Central Greyhound Lines of New York

Central Greyhound Lines (some service operated as Central Greyhound Lines of New York for intra-state service in the State of New York) was an inter-city bus carrier that was part of the Greyhound Lines network. It was affiliated with the New York Central Railroad.

History

Central Greyhound Lines of New York was incorporated in 1936 as merger of Eastern Greyhound Lines of New York (EGNY), Pennsylvania Greyhound Lines of New York (PGNY), and Eastern Greyhound Lines of Michigan.

Eastern Greyhound Lines of New York was incorporated in 1925 as Colonial Motor Coach Corporation and Pennsylvania Greyhound Lines of New York was incorporated in 1924 as Buffalo Interurban Bus Lines Company.

In 1942, they bought Champlain Coach Lines.

In 1950, they bought West Ridge Transportation Company and its subsidiary, the Buffalo and Erie Coach Corporation.

Central Greyhound Lines of New York was consolidated into the Eastern Division of Greyhound in 1955.

  • 22 Buffalo-Lockport-Medina-Albion-Rochester§: portion of service from Buffalo to Lockport, and Lockport to Medina later taken over by Lockport Bus Lines in 1962, then Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (between Buffalo and Lockport) in 1975.
  • 34 Buffalo-East Aurora-Olean-Port Allegany§: service later taken over by Niagara Frontier Transit System as far as Arcade, keeping 34 as route number.
  • 61 Buffalo-Springbrook or Elma-East Aurora§: service later taken over by Niagara Frontier Transit System, as extension of route 2-Clinton
  • 62 Buffalo-Angola-Silver Creek-Dunkirk-Fredonia-Westfield-Erie§
  • 70 Buffalo-Erie-Jamestown-Butler-Pittsburgh
