Coast Mountain Bus Company 7447–7499, 7501–7504
Coast Mountain Bus Company 7447–7499, 7501–7504 are a set of 57 New Flyer Industries D40LFR units built in 2006.
| Unit(s) | Engine | Transmission | Seating | Destination Sign |

| 7447–7499, 7501–7504 | Cummins ISL 280 hp | Allison World B400R6 6 speed | 36 – USSC Aries | Luminator Horizon |
History
This set was originally part of an order for 95 C40LFR units. In early 2006, TransLink reversed the decision to purchase the 95 units and attempted to cancel the order.[1] However, New Flyer was unable to completely cancel the order "without significant impact to the cost and schedule as they [were] too close to production line entry" and the order was instead revised to 50 C40LFR units and the remaining 45 C40LFRs yet to go into production were changed to 45 D40LFRs. As diesel units were at the time $64,000 cheaper and the reduction of the order meant upgrades were no longer required for the CNG fueling stations at Port Coquitlam Transit Centre, the money saved allowed TransLink to order 12 additional D40LFRs,[1] which together formed this set.
Due to headlight visibility issues with bike racks, bikes were initially not allowed after sunset for a short period after these units were delivered. Almost immediately after the buses entered service in late 2006, the issue was noticed and was brought to New Flyer's attention. The provincial motor carrier commission recommended that New Flyer retrofit the headlights, but that would have been costly and time-consuming. New Flyer proposed that a different style of bike racks be used instead. The bike racks were replaced with a different style from late 2007 to early 2008.[2]
In 2009, passenger voice-announcement and display systems by INIT were introduced. CCTV cameras were installed in 2011. Compass Card readers were gradually installed starting in late 2012 and through 2013.
In 2011, all units had their interior dome lights retrofitted from fluorescent to LED to save energy and have a cleaner light output.
After an initial trial on the 9726–9791 series Novas, hard barriers were installed replacing the "shower curtain" installed on all non-barrier buses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Installation work began on this series in November 2023.
Deployment
The majority of this series is based out of Surrey, with some units allocated to Port Coquitlam.
When these units were first delivered, they operated primarily out of Burnaby Transit Centre. Units 7450 and 7454 operated out of Port Coquitlam. With the arrival of the 2007 Nova Bus LFS units in Burnaby, this entire series – as well as 7450 and 7454 while operating out of Port Coquitlam – transferred to Surrey to replace various aging equipment starting in September 2007.
In December 2024, the first retirements occurred, with 7461 and 7504 being retired and scrapped the following month. In March, 7503 followed suit in retirement. Throughout March and April of 2025, five units were placed into storage at Vancouver Transit Centre. Of the five units, four units (7473, 7478, 7484, and 7501) were moved to Richmond in May 2025 for use in driving training for maintenance and occasionally for Operator training. In the same timeframe, unit 7497 was moved to Hamilton Transit Centre and placed into storage there.
On April 1, 2025, units 7466, 7475, and 7476 were transferred to Port Coquitlam, marking the first time since 2007 that a D40LFR has been based out of a depot that is not Surrey.
