Cobourg Transit is the transit system serving the Town of Cobourg, Ontario. Operations are contracted to Mobility Transportation Specialists.

History

Transit service in Cobourg launched in 1970. The contractor was previously Coach Canada; after Coach Canada sold its area operations to Pacific Western Transportation in August 2013, Century Transportation became the contractor.

Beginning in April 2021, Cobourg switched to a fully on-demand bus service, eliminating the two fixed routes. Rides could be booked using the Cobourg Rides app between any of 184 virtual bus stops. Following the increase in ridership, a limited fixed-route system returned in September 2024, operating Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Following increased ridership, a new Limited Fixed Route Bus System returned as a one-year pilot in September 2024. The on-demand service continued to operate alongside the fixed route service. Also in September 2024, Mobility Transportation Specialists became the new operator, and the Cobourg Rides app was replaced by a new Cobourg Transit app.

Service

Cobourg Transit currently operates a single fixed route every 60 minutes on Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  • Sunday 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (last booking 3:30 p.m.)

In addition, Port Hope Transit operates an Express Cobourg Shuttle bus between Port Hope City Hall, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Walmart and the Northumberland Mall before returning to Port Hope. Service operates every 30 minutes, with transfers to Cobourg Transit for $1.00.
