The Conseil régional de transport de Lanaudière (CRT Lanaudière) is the transit co-ordinating body in the Lanaudière region of Québec. The regional county municipalities (MRC) of D'Autray, Joliette, L'Assomption, Matawinie, Montcalm, and Les Moulins are linked by a regional service. MRCs have opted out of the regional service to organize and provide local service (including Taxibus service) on their territory.
The majority of the routes are operated under contract by Keolis Canada with a small number operated by Groupe Gaudreault.
CRTL is under the entity called Transport MRC de Joliette (TMRCJ)
History
Prior to CRT Lanaudière the following systems provided service:
- OMIT de Repentigny (Repentigny);
- CIT du Joliette-Métropolitain (Joliette, Saint-Charles-Borromée and Notre-Dame-des-Prairies);
- CIT Le Portage (Joliette, Saint-Paul-de-Joliette, Crabtree, Sainte-Marie-Salomé, Saint-Gérard-Magella, L'Assomption, Le Gardeur and Charlemagne);
- CIT des Moulins (Mascouche, Lachenaie, La Plaine and Terrebonne);
- CIT Montcalm (Saint-Donat, Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Entrelacs, Chertsey, Rawdon, Sainte-Julienne, Saint-Esprit, Saint-Roch-Ouest, Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Mascouche and Terrebonne)
- Brandon Transport (Joliette, Notre-Dame-des-Prairies, Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie, Saint-Zénon, Saint-Michel-des-Saints, Saint-Gabriel, Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Saint-Cléophas, Sainte-Élizabeth);
- Autobus Brissette (Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola, Berthierville, Sainte-Geneviève-de-Berthier, Lanoraie, Lavaltrie, Saint-Sulpice, Montréal).
The municipalities of Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, Chertsey, Entrelacs, Rawdon, Saint-Paul-de-Joliette, Saint-Gérard-Magella, L'Assomption, Le Gardeur, Charlemagne, Berthierville, Sainte-Geneviève-de-Berthier, Saint-Antoine-de-Lavaltrie, Lavaltrie, Lanoraie, and Les Moulins and Montcalm MRCs had formed their own CITs when legislation came in effect in 1984, taking over previous Société de transport de Laval and Metropolitan Provincial services. The municipality of Repentigny had formed its own local transit service in 1989, taking over previous Société de transport de la communauté urbaine de Montréal services.
A group of studies from the ministère des Transports du Québec in December 1999 examined local and interurban transit in the Lanaudière region for an eventual revision. The report the group produced supported a pan-regional transit system. The CRT Lanaudière was thus formed in 2002 with board representatives from the six regional county municipalities, federating the previous CITs and some highway coach services.[3] Over time, multiple MRCs repatriated local and supra-local transit powers; L'Assomption, Les Moulins and Joliette formed local transit authorities concurrently with the creation of CRT Lanaudière, whereas Montcalm, D'Autray and Matawinie formed theirs respectively in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Services operated by Keolis were operated by Groupe Gaudreault subsidiary Lanau Bus prior to September 2009. Groupe Orléans, now Keolis Canada, acquired some assets of Group Gaudreault which included Lanau Bus's urban transportation division.[4] Keolis Canada operates routes 35, 50 and 125, whereas Groupe Gaudreault operates routes 32, 34 and 131-138. Previous operators also include Brandon Transport, Autobus Brissette et frères and La Berlinoise (now divisions of Groupe Gaudreault).
