Dallas Area Rapid Transit
Dallas Area Rapid Transit, or DART, is the transit agency for Dallas, Texas and the suburbs of Addison, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Farmers Branch, Garland, Glenn Heights, Highland Park, Irving, Richardson, Rowlett, Plano and University Park.
History
The Dallas Transit System (DTS) was the publicly owned mass transit service operated by the City of Dallas, Texas, from 1964 to 1988.
Prior to DTS, the company was formerly known as
- Dallas Transit Company from 1955-1964
- Dallas Railway and Terminal Company from 1925-1955.
DART was created on August 13, 1983 as a regional replacement for the Dallas Transit System, though formal acquisition of the Dallas Transit System wasn't complete until 1988. [1]
