Durham Region Transit 1007-1015

Durham Region Transit 1007-1015 are New Flyer D40LF and D40LFR buses built in 2005 and 2006. They were originally delivered to Mississauga Transit/MiWay, and were initially acquired on long-term lease from Mississauga Bus Group of Companies in early 2024, before being purchased outright in 2025.

History

In the immediate aftermath of the garage fire, DRT agreed to a short-term lease of ten buses from the Toronto Transit Commission (8650-8659). For a longer-term solution to fill fleet requirements, DRT arranged to acquire fifteen used buses on lease; six from City View Bus Sales (numbered 0101-0106) and nine from Mississauga Bus Group of Companies (MBG) (numbered 0107-0115). These leased buses were planned to be used until brand-new buses could be built and delivered.

Prior to being delivered to DRT, most units received minor refurbishment work at the lessor companies (including repainting). The first units were delivered (unnumbered, in plain white livery) to Westney garage in December 2023, with some having the DRT livery and fleet numbers applied by late December. Deliveries continued throughout Winter 2024. The first units entered passenger service in late February 2024. They originally entered service without CAD/AVL systems installed, but all units had them installed by mid-Spring 2024. They were renumbered to 1007-1015 beginning in May 2024.

Durham Region Council agreed to purchase the nine buses outright in March 2025, in order to accommodate planned service increases later that year.
