Durham Region Transit 8050-8055

Durham Region Transit 8050-8055 were Orion 05.501 buses built in 2003 for the Ajax Pickering Transit Authority (APTA) and acquired by DRT in 2006. They were the only new conventional buses bought by APTA. Two buses were built for Cornwall Transit following APTA's order and share the same specifications.

These buses feature touch bar operated rear door and GFI Cents A Bill fareboxes. The buses were fitted with bike racks and Presto readers in 2009.

DRT issued a tender for the refurbishment of 8050 in 2013. Eastway Refurbishing, the only company to submit a bid, was awarded the contract. The bus received a structural and mechanical overhaul. It was given the current DRT livery, which included the extra stripes under the window. Inside, the bus received a new grey floor and contemporary seats inserts as used on new and refurbished buses. The bus retained its Luminator MAX 3000 signs and was given a rear Horizon sign on the HVAC hood.

It was decided not to refurbish the remaining buses in the fleet. They were relocated to Raleigh Division for storage and subsequently sold for scrap.
