Durham Region Transit 8172 and 8173 were Nova Bus LFS buses built in 2005 and acquired by DRT in 2006. 8172 was part of an order built for the Oshawa Transit Commission but was rejected when the plans for DRT were finalized and it was decided Durham Region would pay for new buses. 8173 was a demo for Nova Bus.
Both 8172 and 8173 ran as P1002 and P1001, respectively, as test buses for Coast Mountain Bus Company.
Both of these buses have optic sensor operated rear doors.
The order for these buses was finalized on September 27, 2005, at a total cost of $877,812.
