Durham Region Transit 8431-8445

Durham Region Transit 8431-8445 were New Flyer D40LF buses built in 2007 and delivered new to DRT in late 2007 to early 2008. This batch is part of the Ontario transit agency consortium order for buses for delivery in 2007. The last of these buses were retired in April, 2022.

These buses have seating for 38 passengers or 32 passengers and two wheelchairs. The seats are in grey with charcoal grab handles and backing. The inserts are in Holdsworth Fabrics' YSW24954 moquette. The wheelchair ramp is located at the front door. The rear door uses Vapor vTouch touch bars for passenger operation. Heating, cooling and ventilation are provided by a rear-mounted Thermo King T11 unit, and almost all and passenger windows are of the tip-in transom design. The window after the front door and the last window on the driver's side are of the sliding design. Those windows open a small distance to allow increased airflow throughout the bus if the air conditioning fails. The buses have GFI Cents A Bill fare boxes.

This batch has a few differences than the previous batch, 8401-8430. 8431-8445's seat backs are in charcoal instead of grey and rear doors uses the Vapor vTouch touch bars instead of the traditional ones. The buses feature in-wall ventilation and a different design of the HVAC interior vent unlike the first batch. The previous batch also did not have the two sliding windows.

The buses began receiving mounts for Sportworks bike racks on the front bumper near the end of August to early September 2009. They received the bike racks by the end of November.

8443 was involved in a severe collision with a tow truck in late August 2019, The bus has been retired. The route was on route 922 at the time of the collision that occurred at Bloor Street and Harmony Road.
