History

In October 1999, Foothill Transit received a grant of $1.75 million from the FTA to buy 88 replacement and expansion buses consisting of 4 Orion VI diesel-electric hybrid buses with the rest being the 29-foot and 40-foot Gillig Low Floor buses; however, the hybrid vehicles were rejected, with two of them being bought by Torrance Transit while the other half being unaccounted for at this moment.[1] Prior to the delivery of the Gillig Low Floor units, its fleet consisted of 259 buses, of which 1/3 of them were replaced with this order, increasing the total amount of operating equipment to 277. The first units were delivered in late February 2000 and then entered service about 4-5 months later.[2][3] This series replaced the 1991 Gillig Spirit buses used on Foothill Transit's FasTrax service.

The buses featured new farebox machines to automatically accept a larger variety of fare media. These were the first low floor buses in the Foothill Transit fleet; a slightly updated variant of the classic "Foothill peaks" livery was made for this series to designate their low-floor configuration.

They were most likely replaced by the 2010 NABI 42-BRT CNG buses (F1800-F1811).
