GO Transit 2216-2266
GO Transit 2216-2266 were MCI D4500 buses acquired in September-October 2004. All models are 45 feet in length with seating for 57 individuals. All D4500s of this series are equipped with wheelchair lifts and have two wheelchair positions through seat adjustment.
This model was delivered with different options than prior MCIs that GO purchased. These buses feature a redesigned dashboard, additional brake tailights, and two more curb lights on the door-side luggage doors. These are the last standard D4500 models purchased by GO, replaced by the D4500CT.
This was the first GO order to feature the Caterpillar C13 engine, and unlike other MCI coaches GO Transit has, this order is equipped with the 10-speed ZF transmission. A characteristic of this automated-manual transmission is that it can feel like a manual transmission when shifting. Coaches 2216 and 2217 were refitted with CAT CX31 transmissions as a trial in 2006 and continue to operate with them.
These buses started to undergo refurbishment in July 2010 by Mississauga Truck and Bus Collision (MTB). This is part of a contract that was awarded in early 2010 and includes some buses from the 2185-2215 range. An RFP went out in February 2011 for the refurbishment of up to 43 coaches which includes the remainder of this series, starting around coach 2245, as well as the next series; Eastway Refurbishing was the successful bidder.
All units were retired by April 2017.
