History
Order/Specifications
These coaches were delivered in May-June 2009, and were purchased for service expansion. All models are 45 feet in length with seating for up to 57 individuals, and are equipped with wheelchair lifts and have two wheelchair positions through seat adjustment.
These coaches were delivered with the "swoop" GO Transit livery and CCTV cameras. The front window sun shades are controlled remotely by the driver, rather than having to be manually pulled down in all other GO Transit buses. The interior of this batch of buses differs from previous D4500CT units as the interior trim on the ceiling and walls uses LaFrance's navy "Summer Companion" fabric. The floor from the stairs to the top of the ramp is grooved (same as that on the 1600-1619 series), and the stairwell area is more narrow than older D4500s in the fleet. These buses also have an updated steering wheel similar in appearance to those on some of the 1600-1619 series. This series ordered and delivered with Recaro Ergo Metro driver seats.
The coaches were delivered with 57 seats. In an effort to expedite wheelchair loading, the row of seats beside the wheelchair access door was removed in 2013, lowering the seating capacity to 55. This row of seats had to slide forward on a track to make space for the wheelchair, however in past experience the track would frequently become clogged with debris and inhibit motion.
Refurbishment
This series received a mid-life refurbishment circa 2016. As part of the refurbishment, coaches were repainted into the two-tone green livery.
GO-VAXX program
In 2021 and 2022, some units were converted into mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinics, termed "GO-VAXX". These buses were positioned at accessible community locations across the GTHA (later expanded to other communities in Southern Ontario outside the Greater Golden Horseshoe) and provided a secure, private and sheltered location to store and administer COVID-19 vaccines to the public. Coaches were modified to serve in the GO-VAXX program by the removal of most of the interior seating, and had large graphics applied to the exterior. The program initially consisted of three units from this and the next order (2437, 2439, 2442); two more units were converted in January 2022, while a total of 8 units were available by mid-2022.
In March 2023, the GO-VAXX program was ended. All three units (2437, 2438, 2439) were stored inactive.
