64 Newmarket-York U was a route operated by GO Transit that served between Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and York University in Ontario. This was a weekday service. It was part of the North series of GO Transit routes.
History
Route 64 linked York University to the upper GTA towns of Newmarket and Aurora. Due to York University student requests, a detour was made to service Rutherford GO Station, which caused buses to deviate from Keele Street to serve the station. This detour is seldom used by commuters, and was thus not liked by many drivers, especially during rush hour when Rutherford GO is busy.
When the signage was changed for numerous routes in early 2008, rather than stating 'LOCAL/YORK U' or 'LOCAL/NEWMARKET TERM', the route number was shown with the target destination (Either York U or Newmarket Terminal) with various destinations on the way.
In mid-2008, route 64 was moved from Bay 3 to Bay 2 at Newmarket Terminal, sharing a bay with route 62. Previously, the route served Bay 3 with route 66, which had similar timing with route 64, causing confusion with passengers. Further confusion occurred due to the similar names of both route's termini.
As of April 26, 2010, this route was discontinued due to low ridership; the buses saved were used on route 31. York Region Transit took over this route by introducing route 22A in September 2010.
