The General Motors RTS began production in 1977 through to 1987. GMC sold the RTS design and patent rights to Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (TMC) of Roswell, New Mexico in May 1987. The two companies did a joint order for the New York City Transit Authority to prepare TMC for the production.

- RTS-01 (1977-78)
- RTS-03 (1978-80)
- RTS-04 (1981-86)
- RTS-05: A 60-foot articulated RTS-03 that was not put into mass production; it was strictly an experimental model. Known as the RTS-Mega. The New York City Transit Authority tested this model, and returned it as inadequate for its purposes.
- RTS-06 (1986-87)
