Guelph Transit 229 was a Nova Bus LFS 40102 bus built in 1997 for the Hamilton Street Railway as 9717. In July 2011, Guelph city council approved the offer by MTB Transit Solutions for one refurbished secondhand bus at a price of approximately $125,000. The bus was purchased in September 2011. This is the first second hand bus since 2008.

The bus had seating for 35 passengers with spaces for wheelchairs available by folding seats. A new Ricon flip-out wheelchair ramp was installed at a widened front door (52 inches) by MTB, and the ramp at the rear door was removed. Mechanical components were overhauled and the exterior was left in the ghost livery until the end of October; Then was put into the Guelph livery and a bike rack was installed. New flooring was installed and the bus was re-powered with new a engine and transmission. It was renumbered from 225 to 229 in December of 2011.
