Halifax Transit route 51 'Windmill' (previously 51 Shannon) services north end Dartmouth, terminating at the formerly military housing development known as Ocean Breeze (Wallace Heights), on Princess Margaret Blvd. The route gets its' name from Windmill Road, which is the north-south route it travels between the Bridge Terminal and Ocean Breeze.
Originally, the route was heavily used by military personnel, heading back and forth from the military housing developments Shannon Park and Wallace Heights, and the naval dockyard near downtown Halifax. Today, with Shannon Park closed and Wallace Heights no longer owned by the military, seeing uniformed members of the armed forces on the route 51 is as common as any other route. Service to the naval dockyard in Halifax was discontinued in 2011, replaced by the route 11 Dockyard.
Alternate rush hour routing
During rush hour, the route is extended beyond Wallace Heights into the Burnside Industrial Park and Akerley Blvd. As well during rush hour, the route provides a couple of trips servicing the Bedford Institute of Oceanography.

The route 51 services the following terminals and major stops:
