Housatonic Area Regional Transit, or HARTransit, is the public transit system in Danbury, Connecticut. HARTransit also serves the municipalities of Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Bethel, Redding, Roxbury, New Fairfield, and Ridgefield in Connecticut as well as Brewster, Katonah, Lewisboro and Southeast in New York.

History

  • Established in 1972 as the Danbury-Bethel Transit District.[1]
  • On July 2, 1973, bus service began under contract operations of Candlewood Valley Bus Company.[1]
  • In 1979, after several municipal members – including New Milford – joined the transit agency, it was renamed to Housatonic Area Regional Transit.[1]
  • In 1991, HART took full control of the bus operations from Candlewood Valley Bus Company.[1]

Fixed

The following routes run on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and are taken over by the LOOP routes after those times. There is no service on Sundays, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Route 7 Link

  • This route runs on weekdays from 6:35 AM to 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM to 6:25 PM as a commuter line connecting Danbury to Norwalk and the surrounding communities.

LOOPs

The following routes take over the fixed routes and run on weeknights, Saturday nights and Sundays. There is no service on Easter, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, but provides Sunday scheduled service on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Black Friday and New Year's Day.
