Iowa City Transit 101-104
In March 2021, Iowa City Transit announced the procurement of 4 Proterra ZX5 electric buses. Their purchase was funded through a $3.3 million in grants from the Federal Transit Administration and the Iowa Department of Transportation. A demonstrator briefly operated in the spring of 2021, following the purchase announcement. The four production buses were delivered in Fall 2021; after testing and driver training was completed, the buses entered revenue service beginning on January 24, 2022.
Originally used exclusively on routes 4 and 8, these buses are now used on all routes except route 10 due to a low-clearance railroad bridge.
