Iowa City Transit 54-55 were 1992 Gillig Phantom 40' (40/96TB/6V92T) buses. They were originally built for Foothill Transit and were purchased through Transit Sales International.
These buses were originally powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines with Allison HTB-748 transmissions. They featured single headlights (duals) per CHP regulations regarding bike racks blocking the view of the headlights.
