Route Details

This north-south express route ran between Lake City and Downtown Seattle via Northgate. Weekday service ran from 4:50 AM to 12:05 AM and weekend service ran from 6:05 AM to 12:20 AM.

Northbound trips departed 4th Avenue S and S Jackson Street north on 4th Avenue S, north on Prefontaine Pl S, north on 3rd Avenue, east on Olive Way, north on I-5, east on NE 103rd Street, south on 1st Avenue NE and east on NE 100th Street to Northgate Transit Center. The trip then left the transit center east on NE 103rd Street, north on 5th Avenue NE, east on NE 125th Street and north on Lake City Way to NE 130th Street.

Southbound trips departed NE 130th Street & 35th Avenue NE west on NE 130th Street, south on Lake City Way, west on NE 125th Street, south on 5th Avenue NE and west on NE 103rd Street to Northgate Transit Center. The trip then left the transit center west on NE 100th Street, north on 1st Avenue NE, south on I-5, west on Union Street, south on 3rd Avenue, east on Yesler Way, east on Terrace Street and south on 5th Avenue to S Weller Street.

During morning peak hours, about half of the trips started at 5th Avenue NE & NE 125th Street instead of NE 130th Street & 35th Avenue NE. During afternoon peak hours, about half of the trips terminated at 5th Avenue NE & NE 125th Street instead of Lake City Way NE and NE 130th Street.

History

  • September 8, 1970 - route launched as a Blue Streak service, serving Sand Point, Lake City and Northgate Mall before continuing downtown on I-5, running every 7-15 minutes, 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday - Saturday
  • March 1971 - Saturday service discontinued due to low ridership
  • January 1978 - Blue Streak branding removed
  • 1991 - Route 41 moved into Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, service converted to mainly peak hours, with off-peak and weekend service provided by route 307, which followed the same routing between downtown and Northgate before continuing to Bothell
  • 1997 - Terminus moved from Magnuson Park in Sand Point to 5th Avenue NE & NE 125th Street, eliminating service to Lake City and Sand Point
  • 2002 - route 307 deleted as part of restructuring to accommodate new Sound Transit route 522, route 41 extended to Lake City, midday and weekend service introduced, including service every 15 minutes or better most times on weekdays
  • September 2005 to September 2007 - Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel closed to prepare for Link Light Rail, route 41 moved onto surface streets
  • March 23, 2019 - Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel closed to bus traffic, route 41 moved onto surface streets, primarily 3rd Avenue, Olive Way and Stewart Street
  • July 2019 - southbound service into downtown Seattle moved from Stewart Street to Union Street to reduce travel times
  • October 2, 2021 - Final trip operates just after midnight. Route terminated and replaced with 1 Line Northgate Extension between Downtown Seattle and Northgate, and with route 75 between Northgate and Lake City.
