History
This second order of Neoplan USA CNG buses were mostly similar to the earlier 1995-1996 series, aside from select units having LED side turn markers instead of halogens (possibly as a retrofit), which were standard for the later 1997-1999 buses. Units 4693-4729 were delivered in the original Metro two-stripe paint scheme while the rest had the (at the time) new 'Yellowjacket' paint scheme; all units were later repainted in the Metro Local livery in 2003-2006. 40 additional units similar to this series were supposed to delivered to LA Metro but were rejected, eventually acquired by ABQ RIDE as 301-340.
The buses were operated by LACMTA divisions 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 15 and 18. They were eventually replaced with the 2010-2011 NABI Compobus units (8100-8400 and 8401-8491). The last units that remained in service were used as training vehicles. Units 4725, 4770, and 4775 were the last active units.
