Merced County Transit M-61 to M-63 were 1988 Gillig Phantom 40' (40/102TB/6V92T) buses. They were originally purchased and operated by Laidlaw Transit Services for BART Express service. In mid to late 1997, BART Express service ended. The buses transferred to Merced County Transit under Laidlaw operation. They retained the BART Express livery while operating. Their fleet numbers were labeled as "M61" instead of "M-61."
