;The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, also known as Houston METRO or simply METRO, is the transit provider for Houston, Texas. METRO provides service to the City of Houston; unincorporated Harris County; and 14 smaller cities ("multi-cities") within Harris County, including Bellaire, Bunker Hill Village, El Lago, Hedwig Village, Hilshire Village, Humble, Hunters Creek Village, Katy, Missouri City, Piney Point Village, Southside Place, Spring Valley Village, Taylor Lake Village, and West University Place.

METRO operates 122 bus routes throughout Houston and Harris County, with 75 local bus routes (including 6 seven-day and 2 weekday only express routes), 9 shuttle and demand-response (curb2curb) services, 2 premium bus services (METRO Rapid and Quickline), and 26 Park and Ride express routes (including 6 mid-day corridor routes).

METRORail

METRORail is the name of the nearly 23-mile light rail network comprised of three lines which converge downtown in Houston’s central business district.

Bus Roster

METRO has a current active fleet of 1,158 ACTIVE* fixed-route buses (as of March 25, 2025), which includes 7 Gillig 30-foot BRT Plus CNG buses, 734 40-foot conventional transit buses (378 diesel buses, 249 hybrid buses, 87 CNG buses and 20 battery-electric buses), 264 45-foot MCI diesel commuter buses, 101 60-foot diesel articulated buses and 52 Ram Promaster low-floor cutaway vans used on low ridership and demand-response (curb2curb) routes.

METRO is currently in the process of receiving 250 New Flyer 40-foot buses (210 diesel and 40 CNG) and 100 MCI D45 CRT coaches.

(*) - This number fluctuates depending on the active status of the Orion VII, 2025 New Flyer and MCI fleets. The Orion VII fleets are in the process of being retired from service, while the New Flyer XD40 and XN40, and MCI D45 CRT fleets are being delivered.

Paratransit (METROLift)

The current METROLift fleet consists of Ford cutaway vans generally numbered in the 1100s, 1200s and 1300s, and some Ram Promaster-based vehicles numbered in the 4400s. The specs for the current fleet is being researched as many of the vehicles currently listed as "active" are likely retired.
