Mount Joy GO Station is a GO Transit train station located in Markham, ON. It is located on Bur Oak Ave. at Anderson Ave., just east of Highway 48.
The main platform is located on the west side of the tracks, extending south-west from Bur Oak. The station building is located at the north end of the platform, next to Bur Oak. Directly west of the station building is a 3-platform bus loop. On either side of the station there are large parking lots, extending out on either side to the next sidestreets.
Tickets are available from a wicket during morning rush hours; otherwise, a ticket vending machine is available, or single-ride and day pass fares may be purchased from the bus driver.
History
GO Trains have passed by the site of Mount Joy ever since service started on the Stouffville line back in 1982. At the time, it was only countryside, as most of Markham's development ended further south at 16th Avenue. In the 2000's, development moved north to Major Mackenzie at a rapid pace. At the same time, nearby Markham station's parking lots were quickly filling up, and there was no room for expansion. Opening a new station to serve both those demands was required, and Mount Joy was the first new station to open on the Stouffville line since GO first started operation (excluding the relocation of Unionville).
Connecting routes
Two GO Transit bus routes, one GO Transit train line, two YRT routes and one TTC route serve Mount Joy. A small off-street bus loop with 3 bays is available, while buses serving the street do so on Bur Oak Ave. at Anderson, directly across from the station building.
