Nassau Inter-County Express, or NICE, is the public transit system primarily serving Nassau County. It was founded in 1973 as the Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority, but ceased use of this name in 1995. It was a public transit division operated under an Metropolitan Transportation Authority subsidiary and was known as MTA Long Island Bus until January 1, 2012. Operations were handed over to Transdev (formerly Veolia Transportation), who successfully bid for the five-year contract September 2010.[2] The controversial contract was approved by the Nassau County Legislature on December 12, 2011.[3]
