These buses were part of the first bulk purchase of Flxible transit and suburban buses for the State of New Jersey, which would replace a lot of the former equipment of Public Service Coordinated Transport.

This group of buses features the Detroit Diesel 6V71N engine married to an Allison V730 transmission.

The majority of these buses made it onto the roster for New Jersey Transit when it was formed in 1980, eventually being replaced by new Flxible Metro suburban buses.
