New Jersey Transit Oradell Garage

Oradell is one of the New Jersey Transit's 18 depots. This garage mainly handles routes in the Oradell area going into New York. It replaced the old Bergenfield and Hackensack Garages in 1962.

Due to its proximity to the Hackensack River, the garage is prone to flooding when the river swells over its banks. Prior to heavy rain, buses from the garage are temporarily located to the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, most recently in March 2024. In early September 2021, storms that were once part of Hurricane Ida caused the Hackensack to flood, causing permanent damage to some buses and the temporary relocation of the others to area parking lots, including the Garden State Plaza. A heavy nor'easter in late October of that year also required a temporary relocation of buses.

Some Oradell-based routes (specifically the 165, 167 and 168) and 100 buses moved to the former Rockland Coaches garage in Westwood effective with the evening pullout on September 2, 2022. This change will alleviate the overcrowding caused by the introduction of 45-foot cruisers (see under Fleet below), and will allow for the few remaining 40-foot buses running out of there to be retired.

Oradell is due to be replaced by the new Ridgefield Park Northern Bus Facility in 2029, which will comfortably house up to 500 45- and 60-foot buses.

Fleet

Oradell Garage only houses cruiser buses. Until modifications in 2021, 45-foot buses could not be serviced there. The first 45-foot buses were assigned to Oradell in 2021 with seven new units originally destined for Wayne Garage (21191-21197). The garage also temporarily housed other 45-foot coaches on loan from other garages (mostly Meadowlands, Howell and Ironbound). Oradell also received 30 buses reallocated from Academy Bus Lines and an additional 33 option buses in 2021. These buses as well as 10 buses from the 2022 order have since transferred to Westwood upon its opening in September 2022. Oradell currently has a large portion of the 2022 order (including another 30 reallocated from Academy Bus Lines) as well as a number of 2018-2021 buses originally assigned to other garages and private carriers.

NJT garage fleets fluctuate often. Therefore, it is impossible to always provide an up-to-date list of buses assigned to the garage, and the table is not always guaranteed to be correct.
